ENLISTMENT PROCESS
Prior-Service
Procedures for Enlistment in the Air National Guard (Prior Service)
The process begins with your local Air National Guard Recruiting office. You will:
· Receive your initial interview by a Recruiter to determine your tentative qualifications for entrance into the New Mexico Air National Guard
· Receive a complete overview of the programs offered by the Air National Guard
· At this time, you will need to bring in source documents such as your DD 214, NGB 22, medical paperwork, etc. so the recruiter can better assist your needs.
Once you feel ready to move onto the next step, your Recruiter will move onto the next step, which is to qualify you for entrance and job qualifications. You will be:
· The recruiter will pull your ASVAB scores to determine what jobs you qualify for based on what jobs we have vacant and if you are prior service from a different branch, we will determine if your prior MOS converts to an Air Force career field.
· The recruiter will evaluate what medical paperwork you have if any and will determine if you need to complete a physical examination to determine if you are medically qualified for entrance into the TXANG. You will need to provide medical documentation for any ailments that required hospitalization. The physical is conducted at the military entrance processing station (MEPS) in San Antonio, TX. After you have successfully completed both exams, then you will be moved onto job placement. This is the fun part! Your Recruiter will utilize both scores (from your ASVAB scores and Medical Physical) to determine which jobs you would qualify for. Once they have reviewed your qualifications to the qualifications required for the positions that are posted on the monthly vacancy listing, then you will:
· Visit the sections you're interested in working
· Be briefed about potential incentives and benefits
Once you've chosen the job you would like to do, you will be scheduled for an appointment to come back to the unit to have your oath administered to you. You will meet an enlistment clerk who will explain your contract in detail and go over some of the benefits that you will receive.
And that's it! Time to make some decisions! Do you want to enlist? If so, when would you like to enlist?
