KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Col. George Sefzik assumed command of the 150th Special Operations Wing, New Mexico Air National Guard, here April 10, 2021.
In his prior assignment, Sefzik served as commander of the 27th Special Operations Group, Cannon AFB, New Mexico, where he led 1,100 Airmen to execute missions including precision strike; battlefield mobility; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; helicopter aerial refueling; and other specialized combat support missions.
Sefzik will be the first active duty wing commander to lead the 150 SOW. Although uncommon for a Guard unit to have an active duty commander, it is not without reason.
“There was one person that commanders of both AETC (Air Education and Training Command) and AFSOC (Air Force Special Operations Command) were unanimous about,” said Brig. Gen. Michele LaMontagne, Assistant Adjutant General-Air of New Mexico. “That was Col. George Sefzik.”
The 150 SOW provides mission-ready Airmen in a variety of skilled career fields for state and federal missions. The 150 SOW is a Total Force Associate unit partnered with the 58th Special Operations Wing here at Kirtland. The two wings share a federal mission to train combat-ready Personnel Recovery and Special Operations aircrews and sustain a fleet of H/MC-130J, CV-22, HH-60G, and RC-26 aircraft. The 150 SOW also supports federal intelligence, targeting, medical, security, and homeland defense missions. The 150 SOW’s state mission is to preserve peace and public safety while protecting the lives and property of New Mexicans.
“No matter what task we are directed to perform—state, federal or otherwise—we will succeed,” said Sefzik.
